These engines share the same basic displacement but differ in output, rated speed, controls, dimensions, certification and intended duty.
Transmission selection changes across the 6LY family. Common-rail 6LY400 and 6LY440 packages can be matched with applicable KMH61A, KMH61V or ZF gearbox arrangements, whereas older 6LY2A and 6LY2M installations may use KMH60A, YX-50S or other approved marine gears. A successful Yanmar 6LY repower requires confirmation of the engine beds, shaft position, reduction ratio, propeller loading, exhaust height, cooling capacity and compatibility of the existing controls.
