MerCruiser marine engines are sold as integrated propulsion systems for sport boats, bowriders, cruisers, tow-sports boats and larger recreational craft. Rather than selecting the engine alone, buyers must consider the complete combination of horsepower, sterndrive or transmission, controls, steering and propeller.
The current gasoline range begins with the MerCruiser 4.5L V6, available in 200 and 250 hp versions. The MerCruiser 6.2L V8 provides 300 or 350 hp, while the MerCruiser 8.2L V8 covers higher-output applications with ratings reaching approximately 430 hp, depending on the propulsion configuration and market.
Available packages include Alpha One, Bravo One, Bravo Two and Bravo Three sterndrives, together with straight-inboard and tow-sports configurations on applicable engines. MerCruiser sterndrive engines may also support SmartCraft monitoring, Digital Throttle and Shift, Adaptive Speed Control, joystick piloting and SeaCore corrosion-protection options.
Older MerCruiser diesel engines, including D-series and TDI models, should be treated separately from the current gasoline lineup. When purchasing a used, rebuilt or remanufactured unit, confirm the complete engine designation, serial number, operating hours, compression or test results, drive compatibility, replaced components and parts availability.
A quotation for a MerCruiser engine for sale should identify the exact engine model, horsepower, fuel type and condition. It should also list the sterndrive or transmission, transom assembly, controls, steering equipment, wiring, instrumentation, cooling system, exhaust components, propeller, warranty coverage, lead time and delivery terms.
