Volvo Penta Aquamatic Sterndrive packages combine a marine diesel engine with an integrated DP-I Duoprop drive for cruisers, sportfishing boats, yachts and commercial vessels. MSS Motorsports lists complete propulsion packages for new installations and repowering, with selection based on hull size, operating load, cruising speed and available transom space.
The category includes D4-150A, D4-230A, D4-270A, D4-300A and D4-320A DP-I packages from 150 to 320 hp, using a 3.7-litre four-cylinder engine. D6-300A, D6-340A, D6-380A, D6-400A and D6-440A DP-I packages cover 300 to 440 hp with a 5.5-litre inline six-cylinder engine. The D4-150A DP-I and D6-300A DP-I show the range from compact to higher-output sterndrive applications.
D4 and D6 Aquamatic engines use electronically controlled common-rail fuel injection, marine-specific torque delivery and heat-exchanger cooling. The D4 uses turbocharging, while higher-output D6 variants combine turbocharging and supercharger technology with charge-air cooling. Electronic Vessel Control (EVC) integrates engine monitoring, throttle and shifting functions, subject to the supplied engine and drive generation.
The DP-I drive uses counter-rotating Duopropellers to transfer diesel torque efficiently, improving acceleration, grip, low-speed maneuverability and cruising control. Before a repower, confirm the transom shield, drive ratio, propeller specification, steering and trim systems, engine mounts, exhaust routing, EVC harness, controls and installation clearance.
